The training partnership of Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea secured two wins on Boxing Day.
Three-year-old filly Divine Fire ($4.40) upset heavily-fancied favourite Proven Correct ($1.90 fav) for the Clarken and O’Shea stable, and ownership group On Fire Racing.
“We had a catastrophically bad start to our time together, thank god it’s turned around and (they) entrusted us to buy this nice filly, we paid a bit of money for her,” Clarken said.
“She’s got a great pedigree and she’ll be aimed up for our Oaks style races leading in to the carnival.”
Bought for $95,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Clarken believes the promising filly looks set to relish more ground.
“She’s a really nice filly out of a listed winning Thorn Park mare and I think that she will gobble up a bit further and she looks like she’s on the right time,” he said.
“She’ll only have maybe a week in the paddock and then she’ll go to the farm and we’ll tread water with her.
“We can keep them moving along there just doing some dressage, poking around the beach and they don’t lose any fitness.”
The team also scored with Cullen Skink remaining unbeaten for the preparation.
