Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea will chase a two state feature race double on Saturday.
South Australian racing’s newest partnership head to Melbourne for the $350,000 Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) with Ironclad while they’ve opted to keep Beau Rossa in Adelaide for the $107,250 Listed Durbridge Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville where he’ll be joined by stablemates Parsifal and He’s A Balter.
Ironclad comes off a successful summer campaign where he finished second in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes before running third in the Group 2 Ted Ven Heemst Stakes over 2100m in Perth.
“He’s going very well, he’s been working really nicely the last couple of weeks,’’ O’Shea said of the horse who is also among All-Star Mile nominations.
Clarken and O’Shea had their first winner in combination at Murray Bridge last Friday with Siyata and also take another stable newcomer Jean Valjean to Melbourne alongside Ironclad.
Jean Valjean was impressive winning first-up for the stable before running second and heads to Melbourne on the back of a soft jump-out with Jamie Kah booked to ride both horses.
Beau Rossa endured a luckless WA campaign when he was only beaten 3.28 lengths behind Paulele in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes before running down the track in the Group 3 Gold Rush.
“He trialled quite well the other day, he hasn’t had a lot of luck, he just needs a bit to go his way,’’ O’Shea said.
Fellow South Australian horseman David Jolly has also opted for the Australia Day Stakes at Moonee Valley with Calypso Reign.
The talented grey who won the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Morphettville back in August and hasn’t raced since running fourth behind Shamino in the Listed W H Wylie Stakes in September.
