South Australian trainer Will Clarken’s Dubai venture almost got off to a flying start on Friday might when his sprinter He’s A Balter was narrowly beaten into second place in the opening race of the card at Meydan.
He’s A Balter was ridden by Caitlin Jones and he loomed to win inside the 200-metre mark in the restricted race before Batwan finished too strongly to beat him by a neck over the straight course.
"He was terrific," Clarken tweeted of He’s A Balter."Parsifal also did the team very proud. Bring on the rest of the carnival."
The South Australian trainer then had to wait until the eighth and final event for stablemate Parsifal to make his Dubai debut and he also performed well for Jones in a listed 1200-metre race.
Parsifal finished a credible sixth in the race, less than five lengths from the winner Man Of Promise, who won for Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby.
The pair will continue to race over the coming weeks in the lead-up carnival to Dubai World Cup on March 26.
