Trainer Will Clarken and Bloodstock agent Suman Hedge were so impressed by three-year-old Extremely Lucky’s eye-catching debut victory at Murray Bridge earlier this month they had to secure him for themselves.
The Extreme Choice gelding had settled second-last nine-lengths off the leader in the 900m maiden but flew home to record victory for local trainer Sam Burford.
Hedge said he was captivated by the gelding’s debut win and was keen to acquire him, especially when he discovered he was a son of potent sire Extreme Choice.
“Really happy to purchase him, we’d seen him win his debut really impressively and as soon as it happened I called Will and we made an offer last week,” Hedge said.
“You just don’t see horses win the way he won in the manner in which he did it.
“To be by Extreme Choice too who despite his challenges at stud is having so much success with over 18 per cent stakes winners to runners, having sired horses like Golden Slipper-winner Stay Inside and Espiona, in the end it was an easy decision for us.
“Will knows his former trainer Sam well so called him up and was able to work out a deal with him and the owner/breeders.
“We’re hopeful of getting a few more owners in him now too.”
After his maiden success the speedy three-year-old has headed to the paddock and is expected to arrive in Clarken’s stable next week ahead of an Autumn campaign targeting 1000m races.
“We’re hopeful he’s stakes class but he’s only won a maiden victory at Murray Bridge so we’re not getting ahead of ourselves just yet.
“When he arrives Will can take a good look at him and get to know him better but at this stage we’re thinking he’ll be best over 1000m and will take him through his grades in Adelaide with the plan to head over to Melbourne.”
