Jamie Kah is reunited with budding sprint star Extremely Lucky at The Valley on Saturday in what she expects could be the start of something special this spring.
Kah has only ridden the Adelaide-trained four-year-old once in his five lifetime starts for a benchmark 0-72 in Adelaide in May, but she told Racing.com on Monday that she immediately identified him as a potential topliner.
“When I rode him that day at Morphettville, he gave me an enormous feel,” Kah said.
“I thought he was a serious horse, and he just keeps improving each time, so (I’m) very excited about this weekend.
“But that turn of foot the other day in Adelaide was just enormous.
“Horses can’t do that from where he came from, so I think he’s got some big races in front of him this spring.
“He’s an impressive horse. He’s come through his grades really quickly. He’s got a lot of talent obviously this weekend is not his endgame, but he’s very untapped I think.
“He’s got a great turn of foot and he’s a very easy ride. You can put him anywhere in the race.”
Todd Pannell rode Extremely Lucky first-up in the listed Lightning Stakes at Morphettville, where the horse came from last in a field of 12 to run over the top of a field of confirmed black-type sprinters.
His task on Saturday at The Valley in the $175,000 listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) looks even tougher, but will serve as a stern test for the $1 million G1 Moir Stakes over the same course on September 23.
