Spruik South Australian sprinter Extremely Lucky remains on track for Friday week's Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley after pleasing trainer Will Clarken in a jumpout at Morphettville on Tuesday.
The Stakes-winning son of Extreme Choice finished a narrow second to Struck By in the 800-metre gallop, with Clarken happy enough to take his chance in the weight-for-age speed test on AFL Grand Final Eve.
After winning the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) in Adelaide first-up, Extremely Lucky was a beaten favourite in the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) at The Valley last start, although Clarken said with hindsight, he might have reconsidered running the gelding.
But on a Good track and with a favourable draw, the trainer is optimistic the four-year-old can show his true ability.
Extremely Lucky, who will be ridden by Ben Melham, is rated a $6 chance in Sportsbet's Moir Stakes market, alongside Magic Millions Classic winner Coolangatta ($6) and behind last-start McEwen Stakes hero Rothfire ($4.60).
"I'm still sitting on the fence with whether I did the right thing running him last start because the track was very heavy, it was deteriorating and it looked like it was quicksand back and wide," Clarken told SEN.
"He had a jumpout this morning (Tuesday), he went terrific and he goes to the Moir on Friday week with Ben Melham to ride.
"I just love how it's all unfolding for him.
"I keep looking at the Moir and I just can't see something that's a standout - you look at the futures betting and he's on the second line with Coolangatta and you could argue both horses were below their best.
"Rothfire the favourite is going well but it looks like a really open race.
"Barriers are a key thing for everyone over 1000m at The Valley but especially for our horse because we're going to be back and needing to get to the outside."

Stablemates Ironclad and Beau Rossa finished behind Extremely Lucky in Tuesday's jumpout and Clarken said the latter, who was narrowly defeated in last year's G1 Memsie Stakes (1400m), is showing signs that he is back in good order.
"I think Beau Rossa is prepping up particularly well," he said.
"He's a lovely horse on his day and was obviously narrowly beaten in a Group 1."
